Organised by :
Indian Institute Of  Welding, Vishakhapattanam Branch
The Indian Institute of Welding
The Indian Institute of Welding is a national level professional body of Welding Experts devoted to the promotion and advancement of Welding Science and Technology. It was established in 1966 with H.O. at Calcutta. It has eleven branches located at Bangalore, Baroda, Bhilai, Chennai, Cochin, Delhi, Jamshedpur, Kolkata, Mumbai, Tiruchirapalli and Vishakhapattanam. IIW has about 5000 members and over 300 industries as Industrial Corporate Members. Besides holding seminars / conferences, courses etc, IIW conducts Associate Membership Examination (AMIIW) equivalent to Degree in Engg. which is recognized by AICTE & MHRD. IIW also publishes Indian Welding Journal, which has technical research papers of high standards, published after thorough scrutiny by the experts in the welding field.IIW is a member of the International Institute of Welding and has acquired Authorised National Body (ANB) status. IIW can award Internationally accredited professional certificates such as Welding Engineer, Welding Technologist, Welding Specialist, Welding Practioner and International welder. IIW is also member of the Asian Welding federation.
The Vishakhapattnam Branch
IIW, Vishakhapattanam branch started in 1970s and initially was headed by General Managers of M/s. BHPV and subsequently by VSP. Dr.S.R.Gollapudi was the Chairman for a long time and the first Secretary was Sri. R.D. Panatur at BHPV and subsequently Sri. Y.Manohar at VSP. Maximum number of employees of Vishakhapattanam Steel Plant are appearing and obtaining the AMIIW graduateship, which is equivalent to BE in welding speciality.
The Theme And Objective
The search for materials of high strength with low weight properties has resulted in a variety of new materials, alloys and composits making in roads into commercial applications in process industries like Steel, Petroleum, Fertiliser, Automotive, Aerospace, Rail-road and others creating pressing demand for technologies for joining of such materials. Low density primary materials such as alluminium, titanium, ceramics etc., have been modified by alloying and metallurgical methods to create, a new range of exotic materials for use in the manufacturing sector promoting development of special joining methods to exploit use of these materials for commercial purposes. The latest trends in process are hardfacing, overlaying, weld buildup, surfacing, metal spray, etc.
Subjects To Be Covered Under The Theme
  • Metallurgy of emerging materials like alluminium, titanium, ceramics
  • Weldability of the above materials
  • Joining process and the equipment for above materials
  • Training and Education in special joining process
  • Inspection procedures of welded joints
