Eligibility Criteria for Admission to ATB
Eligibility Criteria / Prerequisite Qualification for admission to Diploma to various Courses (IWE / IWT / IWS / IWP / IWIP / IW)
   
  Standard Route: Undergo courses in full at an ATB
 
  International Welding Engineer (IWE)
   
  Standard Route
   
  Route-1:
 
  • Degree in Engineering from a recognised University, Institute or College
    OR
  • Pass in any one of the following professional Examinations, recognised as equivalent to a Degree in Engineering by the Government of India
    • Associate Membership Examination of the Indian Institute of Welding,
    • Associate Membership Examination of the Institution of Engineers (India),
    • Associate Membership Examination of the Indian Institute of Metals,
    • Graduateship Examination of the Indian Institute of Foundrymen,
    • Electrical and Mechanical Engineering Officers Degree of College of Military Engineering, Kirkee
    • Final passing Certificate of Directorate of Marine Engineering Training, Govt. of India,
    • Special Class Apprenticeship Courses of Indian Railway Institute of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, Jamalpur,
    • B asic engineering Course of ‘E’ and ‘L’ Officers, Marine Engineering Specialisation Course, Ex-Upper yardmen – Sub/Lt (E) Professional of I.N.S. ‘Shivaji’, Naval College of Engineering, Lonavla
    • Electrical Specialisation Course, Ex-Upper yardmen – Sub/Lt (L) professional course of I.N.S. ‘Valsura’, Jamnagar.
    • Diploma in Aeronautical Engineering, Automobile Engineering of Madras Institute of Technology, Chennai
    • Any Other Similar Professional Course to be equivalent, Recognised by the Government.
 

Route-2:

 
  • Route-1
    OR
  • The candidate shall furnish proof that, he has either through the general requirement or through subsequent courses and tests, he has studied and passed the basic parts of the course (IWE Part-I), before he is exempted from attending Part I of the course and is allowed to appear at the Intermediate Examination.

  International Welding Technologist (IWT)
   
  Standard Route
   
  Route-I:
  Diploma in Engineering (Minimum of 3 years full time study) after Secondary Education.
   
  Route-II:
 
  • Route-1
    AND
  • The candidate shall furnish proof that, he has either through the general requirement or through subsequent courses and tests, he has studied and passed the basic parts of the course (IWT Part-I), before he is exempted from attending Part I of the course and is allowed to appear at the Intermediate Examination

  International Welding Specialist (IWS)
   
  Standard Route
   
  Route-I:
 
  • Professional Technician Certificate, minimum 2 years of study after Secondary Education.
  • A minimum age of 20 years including 2 years of job related experience.
  Route-III:
 
  • Qualified as an International Welding Practitioner (IWP), or
  • Qualified as a professional worker in metal working professions and a minimum of 3 years experience in welding related activities and a minimum age of 22 years.
  A person shall be deemed to be a qualified as a professional worker in metal working if
 
  • He has passed the Secondary School Examination from a State or Central Board with English, Mathematics and Science, or equivalent
  • He has passed a Professional Training Certificate Course in a metal working trade from an industrial training institute of a State or Central Government, or he has undergone apprenticeship in an industry of two or more years duration and has qualified as a professional metal worker by passing theoretical and practical examinations.
  • Candidates who enter from the Practitioner (IWP) or Professional Worker (Route 3) must pass an entry test covering the syllabus of  IWS-0.
  • A candidate who fails the entry test or a candidate who feels he lacks the necessary basic technical education should attend the preparatory IWS-0 Course at an ATB.

  International Welding Practitioner (IWP)
   
  Standard Route
   
  Route-I:
 
  • Must complete Secondary Education from a State or Central Board, or equivalent
  • Possess a valid welder approval qualification as per ISO 9606 in one of the welding processes listed in 5.1 of ISO 9606, or ASME IX 6G or equivalent, or hold a valid welder approval as a plate welder according to ISO 9606 at least in one process, or equivalent
  • Be of minimum age of 20 years including 2 years of job related experience as a welder
  • At the discretion of the ANB, a candidate may be required to have his welder approval qualification revalidated

  International Welder (IW)
   
  A.  Eligibility Criteria for Module-1
 
  • Must complete Secondary Education from a State or Central Board, or equivalent.
  • Must possess appropriate health, physical and mental capability for doing welder job.
  • Must have some background knowledge / education in metal working.
  B. Eligibility Criteria for other Modules 2-6
 
  • Successful completion of one module qualifies for participation in the next module. With existing knowledge and proven skill, the program may be entered at a higher level, provided that the candidate demonstrates a capability (practically and theoretically) to meet the entry requirements as described below
  • Access to 2: Demonstrate the required level of skill by passing the tests as described in module 1
  • Access to 3: Demonstrate the required level of skill by passing the full examination as described in module 2
  • Access to 4: Demonstrate the required level of skill by passing the full examination as described in module 2 and passing the tests as described in module 3
  • Access to 5: Demonstrate the required level of skill by passing the full examination as described in module 2 and in module 4
  • Access to 6: Demonstrate the required level of skill by passing the full examination as described in module 2 and in module 4 and by passing the tests as described in module 5
  • Practical skill may be proven by adequate and valid ISO 9606 or equivalent certificates

  Procedure for Admission
   
  Brief descriptions of admission procedure in India
  Admission to Engineering Degree
  After Higher Secondary (5+5+2). Admission through Entrance Examinations. Degree awarded by Engineering Colleges / Institutions approved by AICTE (All India Council for Technical Education), Govt. of India.
   
  Diploma in Engineering (3-years Course)
  After completing Secondary Education (5+5) / Lateral entry into 2nd year after completing Higher Secondary Education (5+5+2) from approved State Boards / Councils of India.
   
  Professional Technician Certificate (P.T.C.) in Welding (Certified Technical Course) (2-years Course)
  After completing Secondary Education (5+5) from various approved State Boards of India. Certificate awarded by Department of Technical Education.

  International Welding Inspection Personnel (IWIP)
   
  Basic Level :  IWIP-B
   
  Standard Route
   
  Route-I:
 
  • Must have passed Secondary Education (Class X) recognised by State & Central Govt of India
  • Must have minimum 20 years age
  • Completed Trade Certificate Course in metal working or welding from ITI or equivalent training institutes recognised by Central Govt leading to NCVT certificate
  • Should have 3 years relevant work experience
  Route-Il:
 
  • Access qualification same as entry to International Welding Practitioner (IWP) i.e. International Plate Welder (IPW)
  • Must have minimum 20 years age
  • 2 years relevant job experience as IPW
  • Eligible to get exemption in attending Module WT- I on 'Check by ATB' but required to pass Intermediate exam before Module WI-I
  • The candidate may request on self assessment, to appear for Intermediate Exam after attending Module WI-I and before the final Examination of IWIP-B. The ATB may allow as per request with approval of ANB
  Route-llI:
 
    Holds International Welding Practitioner Diploma (IWP)
  • Exempted from attending Module WT-I & Intermediate Examination
  • Have to attend WI-I and pass the final examination for IWIP-B
  Alternative Route
 
  • Holds International Welding Practitioner Diploma (IWP) or evidence of satisfying conditions for access to IWP
  • A curriculum Vitae (CV) resume containing professional information
    • Evidence that the candidate was working in welding and inspection at the Practitioner level during the last two years before application
    • A justification of the candidate’s experience, training and education to become IWIP-B by appearing and passing the final examination without attending Modules WT-I and WI-I
  • The ANB will have to make a paper assessment and if OK follow it by assessment Interview by expert professional. If OK, it is to be followed by Project and Technical interview before being allowed to sit for final examination
  • The ANB check may recommend entry at any stage prior to final examination at the discretion of ANB-India

  Standard Level:  IWIP-S
   
  Route-I:
 
  • Qualification and experience satisfying the access condition for International Welding Specialist (IWS)
  • Eligible to get exemption in attending Module 0 & WT- II on check by ATB but required to pass ‘Intermediate exam-1’ before Module WI-II
  • The candidate may request on self assessment, to appear for Intermediate Exam 2 after attending Inspection Module WI-II and before the final Examination of IWIP-S. The ATB may allow as per request with approval of ANB.
  Route-lI:
 
  • Qualified IWI-B with two years professional Experience
  • Eligible to get exemption in attending Module 0 & WT- II on check by ATB but required to pass ‘Intermediate exam-1’ before WI-II
  • The candidate may request on self assessment, to appear for ‘Intermediate Exam 2’ after attending Inspection Module WI-II and before the final Examination of IWIP-S. The ATB may allow as per request with approval of ANB.
  Route-llI:
 
  • Higher Secondary Class XII in Science from a recognised State or Central Board
  • Qualification / recognised NDT certificate like ASNT/ISNT level II
  • Experience as Inspector in NDT for 4 Years
  • Or
  • Inspectors with at least 5 years experience in general engineering inspection.
  • Eligible to get exemption in attending Module 0 & WT- II on check by ATB
  • The candidate may request on self assessment, to appear for Intermediate Exam after attending Module WI-II and before the final Examination of IWIP-S. The ATB may allow as per request with approval of ANB
  Route-llI:
 
  • Holders of IWS to proceed directly to Inspection Module WI-II followed by final Examination
  Alternative Route
 
  • Holds International Welding Specialist Diploma (IWS) or evidence of satisfying conditions for access to IWS
  • A curriculum Vitae (CV) resume containing professional information
    • Evidence that the candidate was working in welding and inspection at the Specialist level during the last two years in a period of three years before application
    • A justification of the candidate’s experience, training and education to become IWIP-S by appearing and passing the final examination without attending Modules WT-II and WI-II
  • The ANB will have to make a paper assessment and if OK follow it by assessment Interview by expert professional. If OK, it is to be followed by Project and Technical interview before being allowed to sit for final examination
  • The ANB check may recommend entry at any stage prior to final examination at the discretion of ANB-India

  Comprehensive Level:  IWIP-C

  Route-I:
 
  • Qualification and experience satisfying the access condition for International Welding Technologist (IWT)
  • Eligible to get exemption in attending Module WT- III on check by ATB but required to pass Intermediate exam (1) before Module WI-III
  • The candidate may request on self assessment, to appear for Intermediate Exam after attending Module WI-III and before the final Examination of IWIP-C. The ATB may allow as per request with approval of ANB.
  Route-lI:
 
  • Qualified IWI-S with two years professional Experience
  • Eligible to get exemption in attending Module WT- III on 'Check by ATB' but required to pass Intermediate exam (1) before WI-III
