Access / Eligibility Conditions by Transition Arrangement for IWS

Option – 1

Professional Technician Certificate, minimum 2 years of study after Secondary Education
OR
Qualified as an International Welding Practitioner (IWP)
Have attended welder’s training course from a recognised Institute
3-years verifiable experience in the welding field at the level of IWS

To attend a 5-days refresher course conducted by the ANB, followed by Test and an Interview.

Option – 2

Professional Technician Certificate, minimum 2 years of study after Secondary Education
OR
Qualified as an International Welding Practitioner (IWP)
8-years verifiable experience out of which 5-years in welding field and Practising at the level of IWS for 3-years

To attend a 5-days refresher course conducted by the ANB, followed by Test and Interview.

Alternative Route

Alternate Route is available to qualified candidates who have 4 years minimum experience in Welding or welding related Industry at the Welding Engineer/ Welding Technologist/ Welding Specialist/ Welding Practitioner level and involves no study at an ATB.
The experienced candidate must have educational qualification conforming to the Access Condition as required for the ‘Standard Route’ as reproduced below for the appropriate level along with relevant knowledge, training and experience based on a detailed evaluation checklist and pass an extensive Professional Assessment Interview (PAI) and evaluation of a submitted Project to directly appear for final examination to be conducted by ANB India based on the full IAB curriculum. 	Diploma	Standard Access Condition for Admission to ATB
1	Engineer (IWE)	Option 1: Degree in Engineering/AMIIW or equivalent professional qualification
2	Technologist (IWT)	Option 1: Diploma in Engineering with minimum 3 years study after Secondary Education
3	Specialist (IWS)	Option 1: Degree in physical Science (B Sc)+ 5 Years experience in welding or Professional Technician Certificate with minimum 2 years study after Secondary Education with 2 years experience in welding or an IWP Diploma
4	Practitioner (IWP)	Option 1: Class X pass+ recognised welder training+ Valid welder approval as per ISO 9606/EN 287 for plate or ASME Sec IX G / International Plate Welder in any process + 2 Years Experience as a Welder.

Procedure for Enrolment, Registration for Alternate Route

Qualification Registration: Candidates have to apply in Prescribed Form with Copy of Certificates as proof of qualification and Minimum total Experience in Welding related area for 4 years. Evidence of job function in the last 6 years out of which 4 years must be in welding.
The application form calls for details of prior knowledge & experience proof and justification of candidates experience, training and education in various areas of Welding Technology Modules as mentioned in clause 4 to qualify for Alternate Route.
IIW-India ANB Check: ANB Check of the application will be conducted by two independent assessors to award marks to each of the four Modules based on above documents submitted by candidate. 50% is pass mark for each module. A candidate has to study in an ATB the modules scoring less than 50%.
Professional Assessment Interview (PAI): Candidates who pass the initial ANB check by scoring more than 50% in all modules qualifies for the PAI in each module. A candidate who scores more than 75% in any module, is exempt from PAI in that module.
Project : Candidates passing all the 4 Modules in PAI is required to take up a Project to be completed within 4 weeks in specified topics and submitted as per prescribed format. The Candidate is required to make an Oral presentation of the Project to ANB Examiners.
Final Examination: After successful presentation of the Project the Candidate qualifies to sit for the final Examination consisting of written examination in each subject and Oral Examination. Candidates scoring more than 75% in written Examination are exempted from Oral Examination.
Award of Diploma: Candidates passing all the Modules from the above stage becomes eligible for the respective Diploma for IWE/IWT/IWS/IWP though presently only IWE & IWT are offered.
